Fruit
machines enter 21st Century
London,
March 13/PRNewswire/ -- BACTA, the trade association representing
Britain's gaming and amusement machines, today gave a warm
welcome to the Government's announcement to reform Britain's
antiquated gaming laws and allow punters to use notes, smartcards
and play off the bank/win meter when chancing their luck on
gaming machines. The full Regulatory Reform Order will apply
to higher payout jackpot machines in casinos, bingo halls
and members clubs, whilst the £25 machines found in
pubs, adult gaming centres and betting offices will just be
allowed the use of notes. However, they too will get the remaining
benefits as part of the new Gambling Bill, expected to be
in the Queen's Speech this coming November. All machines will
still have the capability to use coins.
BACTA
President Keith Smith said:
'I am delighted that this long sought change is finally coming
on stream. Until now it has only been possible to use coins
to play machines and to re-insert winnings. This reform will
bring the machines industry into the 21st century and offers
players freedom of choice and improved facilities. I am sure
it will prove popular. I would stress that it applies solely
to machines that can only be played by over-18s.
'For the industry, this measure will reduce maintenance costs
and help to improve machine security.'
The reform is expected to become law by August.
